Our weekend at the fair ‘VEGAN PLANET’ in Vienna

About a month ago, we were contacted by the Austrian Vegan Society and asked if we would be interested in having our own cooking show at the Vegan Planet, a purely vegan fair. Understandably, we were totally blown away and we accepted the offer straight away. The theme of our cooking show was going to be: easy, quick and delicious vegan food. Our show was to last 30 minutes and we came up with an Asian-inspired dish that was just perfect for the theme and the time available: a tofu rice noodle pan with lots of fresh veggies and an incredibly tasty sauce. Find the detailed recipe for our Stir Fry Ricenoodles here.

Anyways, we were really looking forward to the fair and prepared ourselfes well. By the time we were to have our show we must have cooked the recipe at least 20 times. On the one hand, of course, to know all the steps by heart but mainly because it's just such a delicious dish we’d use any opportunity to have it.

And then it was mid-November, the Vegan Planet just around the corner, everything would have been great... if it wasn't for the Corona situation in Austria. Since the numbers in Austria were horrendous at the time, we had to wait until the last day to see if the fair could even take place. But we were lucky and the fair could eventually take place. (I can’t and don’t want to imagine the stress the organisers had to endure during these days...)

So the ‘Vegan Planet’ took place as planned from the 20th to the 21st of November at the MAK (a big museum in Vienna). The fair had a range of great exhibitors and programme items to offer. Amongst them were exciting lectures by Niko Rittenau, Andreas Vojta, Doris Schneeberger and Dr. med. univ. Markus Kolm, as well as delicious cooking shows with Cashwebert (Anderson Santos Silva), Daniel Reiter and of course our humble selves.

But above all the culinary side of the Vegan Planet stole our hearts, or in that case our stomachs . On Saturday and Sunday, we pretty much ate our way through the entire food stands and it was absolutely delicious! From cream slices to brownies, from pyramid cake  to vegan meatloaf and empanadas,  from vegan ribs to the classic vegan burger (whichyou just can’t miss...EVER). There was cheese, chocolate, cookies, pastries, hummus, spreads... basically all the vegan heart could possible desire. It was a great opportunity to try out completely new and exciting vegan treats.

Then, on Sunday at 13:15, it was finally time for our cooking show. Admittedly, we were a bit nervous, but above all we were curious to see how many people would come and see us and how we would do on our first stage appearance (ever!).

Time went by so quickly. The 30 minutes were over before we even realised what was going on. But one thing we can say is: we were really overwhelmed that so many people came to see our show. We didn’t expect that! We had a lot of fun cooking our recipe for all these lovely people. What an incredible experience! We are incredibly grateful for this great opportunity and for all the nice people we met during this weekend. See you all next year!!!
