We tried this recipe for the first time last weekend as we happened to have some leftover cheese in the fridge and an insane pizza craving. But to take it to another level we decided why not try making some pizza waffles?! No sooner said than done we made our dough, prepared the filling and baked these amazing pizza waffles in our waffle iron. They were a success at first try, that probably is because the recipe is absolutely fool proof AND super easy. Plus you only need 5 main ingredients. Amazing, right?!

PIZZA WAFFLES

Ingredients

For the dough
  • 500g flour
  • 300ml warm water
  • 7g dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
For the filling
  • 300g marinara sauce (tomatoe sauce)
  • 1 tbsp dry herbs (thyme, rosemary, oregano)
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 180g vegan cheese (of your choice)

Instructions

  1. Combine the flour and salt in a bowl. In a seperate bowl combine the dry yeast and the warm water and let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Add the yeast-mixture and the oil to the flour. Knead either by hand or with your kitchen machine until a soft dough forms. You may need to add more water depending on the flour you use. The dough should be soft, but not too sticky.
  3. Cover the bowl with a damp tea towel. Let rise for 1 hour.
  4. Meanhwhile put the tomatoe sauce, the herbs and the salt into a bowl and mix. Finally chop the garlic and add to the sauce as well. Grate the vegan cheese and set aside.
  5. Take the dough out of the bowl and put on a floured surface. Divide into 8 equal pieces. Form the pieces into balls and cover with a towel.
  6. Heat up your waffle iron.
  7. Take a dough ball and roll it out thinly (4mm). Put a tablespoon of the prepared sauce into the middle, add some cheese on top of the sauce, then seal the dough and make sure there are no wholes. Carefully place the prepared dough ball into your waffle iron. Close and bake for at least 6-10 minutes. Proceed doing so with the remaining dough balls.
  8. Have your PIZZA WAFFLES with the remaining marinada sauce and enjoy!
